Hello everyone,
I’m Sherri McCoy, the CEO and founder of Blessing Bags of Warmth. Today, I want to share some insights and reflections from my journey leading this incredible organization. Being at the helm of a non-profit dedicated to helping the unhoused and less fortunate has been both challenging and rewarding, filled with countless stories of resilience and hope.
When Rose and I first started Blessing Bags of Warmth, our vision was simple: to provide essential needs and resources to those facing homelessness and housing instability. Over time, this mission has evolved and expanded, shaped by the growing needs of our community and the generous support of our donors and volunteers.
One of the most pressing issues we face today is the rise in emergency housing requests, particularly among families and senior citizens. The current economic landscape has exacerbated inequalities, leaving many on the brink of homelessness. Seeing families with young children and seniors struggling to find safe, stable housing is truly heart-wrenching. Yet, it is also a powerful motivator for our team to continue pushing forward.
Our HAND UP! initiative was born out of this urgent need. We aim to help families access vital resources and retain their housing, giving them the boost they need to regain stability. The stories of those we've helped are a testament to the impact we can make together. Families who were on the verge of losing everything have found hope and a path forward because of the support we've been able to provide.
However, the reality is that there are still many more families waiting for assistance. The demand far exceeds our current capacity, and this is where the power of community comes into play. Each donation, no matter how small, contributes to making a significant difference in someone’s life. It’s about more than just providing shelter; it’s about restoring dignity and offering a sense of security and hope.
Running a non-profit comes with its set of challenges. Balancing limited resources, addressing the ever-changing needs of the community, and ensuring transparency and accountability can be daunting. Yet, the rewards far outweigh these challenges. Every success story, every smile from a child who feels safe, every grateful handshake from a senior who has found stability, reaffirms why we do what we do.
As we look to the future, our goal remains steadfast: to expand our reach, increase our impact, and continue to advocate for those who need it most. We are exploring new partnerships, seeking innovative solutions, and constantly striving to improve our services.
